Dental Crowns

Restoring damaged teeth with natural-looking, long-lasting crowns

What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped "cap" that fits over your existing tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance. The crown completely encases the visible portion of the tooth above the gum line.

Crowns are one of the most versatile restorations in dentistry, used to repair teeth that can no longer be adequately restored with a filling alone.

When Is a Crown Needed?

  • Severe tooth decay that cannot support a filling
  • Cracked, chipped, or broken tooth
  • Severely worn-down tooth (from grinding)
  • After a root canal procedure to protect the tooth
  • To anchor a dental bridge
  • Cosmetic improvement of severely misshapen tooth

What to Expect

Getting a crown typically requires two visits. At the first visit, Dr. Virk will prepare the tooth by reshaping it to accommodate the crown, take an impression, and place a temporary crown. At the second visit, the permanent crown is cemented in place.

We use high-quality porcelain and ceramic crowns that are color-matched to your natural teeth, resulting in a restoration that looks and functions like a natural tooth.
